Hundreds and Hundreds...

Lili has been counting and knowing her ABC's for well over a year, but we entered new territory today. The whole family was driving to the grocery store and on the way Lili yelled out, "Mama, Daddy guess what I saw- I see hundreds of butterflies!" Scott and I looked at each other then asked her again, "How many?" to which she replied, "hundreds." We turned around (at a stoplight, not on the highway) and asked her how many one hundred was- she proceeded to flash "tens" multiple times and said, "this many." I can see where this is going..."I need hundreds of legos, I want hundreds of blueberries..." So there ya go. Hundreds.

Lili singing from the Kazoo book. I had chased her around the house with the camera before setting it on the steps and *hoping* it was recording... It's a long one, she had to finish the whole book, you know. Like her outfit? Yup, she dresses herself all the time now. She has been dressing herself for about a year, but in the past 3 months or so has decided to refuse wearing what I suggest. She has her own fashion ideas, thank you very much. I love seeing what she picks :) And she's moving her mouth weird because she has about 8 lbs of chapstick on her mouth. For some reason she thinks she can't move her lips once she puts it on- like she's full of novacaine or something. And pardon the coughing, we've had quite a sick week around here...


A fav of the grandma's...Lili is a great big sister- changing nappies, carrying Jax in her pouch (because "he likes to be weared!"), singing to him, reading to him, and patting him. My favorite part is the last 10 seconds when he cries and she gets a new book and holds his hand again... :) Mee Maw says I should make them sit down and watch this one when they are fighting preteens...

4 months old

My baby turned 4 months old yesterday, and started sitting today. If only he didn't have an amazing and wonderful big sister to watch and learn from then maybe I could squish him into a new baby just a little bit longer...

Bugs Bugs Bugs

Being around a three year old is the coolest sometimes. She LOOOVES her some bugs. Dead ones, live ones, big ones, smalls ones, any kind of bugs she can find. And sometimes she spots the really amazing ones, like the huge praying mantis that was on the back of our house. I love taking the time to look at bugs with her. Though, I do wish she wouldn't end up killing most of them (some intentionally out of curiousity, others unintentionally out of curiousity...) and putting them in the truck of red speedy race car. It's not fun finding a dead bug/wet sawdust combo in the trunk after a few weeks...

HFCS

High Fructose Corn Syrup. Not good, right?
I just saw an ADVERTISEMENT for HFCS. On TV. Oh dear god.
I understand farmers are paranoid about people hating corn, not in it's original form, but realizing it's a big, bad idea to grow it for things like feed and fuel. And now that people are starting to realize the impact the things we ingest have on our lives (go figure) they are questioning HFCS. According to this commerical, people don't know why they are supposed to be hating HFCS. They also appear to only be concerned with the caloric content of sweetners, therefore HFCS is just the same as sugar so we all need to realize it's just fine. Yeah, that's why it's bad for you, high calories. That and the fact it can only be broken down by the liver, unlike sugar and that is it a GM product created in fermenting liquid by adding and removing chemicals, unlike sugar (for now).

This is getting ridiculous. I'm moving to Canada if I see a commerical for crack. Seriously.

3 year olds are schizophrenic

Lili woke up from her nap today, to early. Way to early. She started crying for us while she was in the bathroom. She wanted her jimjams zipped up but was to tired to do it herself. So Scott did. Then she started crying again, unzipped them, then zipped them up herself. We asked her if she wanted to go back to bed, to which she replied an emphatic, "No!" Okay.
Scott:"Would you like to go downstairs, into mommy and daddy's room or into your room?"
Lili:"No."
Scott:"Okay, would you like to float in midair while you decide?"
Lili:"No. I don't want to do anything!" (Or anyfing as a three year old pronounces it)
Scott: "Okay, I'll just lay you on the bed with monkey while you decide."
(Cue mama opening the curtains)
Lili: "NO No NO! It's too bright! I don't want it so bright!"
(Cue Scott closing the curtains)
Lili: "NO No NO! It's too dark! I don't want it so dark!"
(Cue half opening one curtain)
Lili: "NO No No! I wanted the other one!"
(Cue parents giving up and peeing themselves laughing)

The most amazing woman I know

Without question, the most amazing woman I know. My mother is loving, selfless, patient, sympathetic, thoughtful, intelligent, beautiful, strong...I could go on for days. She stays up late cleaning the house, doing laundry and bathing the kids, then is up at the crack of dawn with the baby so that we can catch a few precious hours of sleep. She spends money she doesn't have just to make our lives more comfortable. She deals with the dirtiest of diapers- you know which ones I'm talking about. She taught us unconditional love and to appreciate every day with a child. She encourages us to think for ourselves and to fight for what we believe is right. She simultaneously juggles two tired kids early in the morning (who am I kidding, she has them all day) and somehow manages to have them happy, dressed, fed the toys picked up the dishes done all before 9am and I swear she mows the lawn and feeds the homeless in there somewhere...



What I'd give for her to not live 1000 miles away...

Yo Ho and a Bottle of Rum...

Our good friends from the old neighborhood had a party for Labor Day. Not to out of the ordinary, right?

He became dead set on the idea of a pirate party awhile back, though I'm not sure why. I think it started from the neighborhood pool parties we had in the old stomping ground. Or maybe it was just a good excuse to dress up and drink lots of Rum. And yes, the mast was taller than the two story house and you could see it upon entering the neighborhood. And yes, he threatened to make people walk the plank (aka enter the dunk tank) if they weren't quite piratey enough. Regardless, kids and grownups alike had a blast dressed in their pirate gear and the splashing in the pools. In fact, Lili had to wear her pirate gear for several days straight, even to Costco. That's my little pirate girl.

I can't believe my little baby is almost four months old already! How on earth can that be?
